Omar, Mister Rose

We're off to Morocco to meet our rose grower.

-

Kelaat M'Gouna, a small town in southern Morocco, is world-famous for two things: its incredible Ahidus dancers and its Rose Festival. While we do love a good dance at Les 2 Marmottes, we're definitely more interested in the flowers!

A family story

The first time Les 2 Marmottes crossed the Mediterranean was to meet our rose grower's father. This family has passed their love of flowers down through the generations, turning their farm into a fragrant little paradise with 20 hectares of fields where the roses grow happily, and 5 hectares of indoor areas for drying the freshly harvested petals.

Initially planted to mark out property boundaries or to separate agricultural plots, Kelaat M'Gouna roses have charmed 'noses' from around the world with their enticing fragrance! They've even been awarded a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).

Hand-picked flowers

It has to be said, this little rose from M'Gouna has all the makings of a great rose: a pretty pink colour and a fragrance to die for!

That's why it's so popular with the world's leading perfumers, from Grasse to New York. Fortunately for us (and for you!), our producer keeps some of the roses he grows every year for us.

From the middle of April, in the early hours of the morning, you'll find a group of 20 pickers busy in the fields picking the roses one by one. And there's no time to dawdle: the roses must be harvested immediately once they open.

Every morning for a month and a half, the petals and buds are collected before being dried on site for half a day.

Roses under review

Before arriving in your cup, the dried rose petals and buds will undergo a few more tests.

Omar uses an external laboratory to analyse samples, and we do the same ourselves! Why? If we get similar results, then we know you're getting the best plants in our uniquely flavoured blends like our Back in Shape, Fruit Blend and Night Fairy teas.
